Pediatric Q&A

What is a pediatrician?

A pediatrician is a physician who treats and works with children. They offer preventive medicine and medical care for children who are sick or dealing with a persistent health issue. These doctors look after the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the children they treat. They will work with the children as they grow through each phase of development and address any problems which could arise during those times. Pediatricians care for infants and children through the age of 21 and will assist them to foster health and wellness habits.

How does pediatrics differ from adult care?

Pediatrics is different from adult medical care in quite a few ways. The smaller body of an infant and child has a dramatically different physiology from that of a full-grown adult. Caring for a child is not like caring for a small adult, particularly since their bodies are growing and changing constantly. Congenital defects, genetic differences, and developmental problems are also more of a concern in children than they are in adults and these doctors will need to pay special attention to these issues. Children also cannot make decisions for themselves and frequently don’t understand and can’t understand what is taking place inside their bodies and because of this, these doctors have to be specially trained to talk with children and confer their parents.
