Why should I go to the dentist regularly?

The American Dental Association recommends having a regular dental visit about every six months to provide essential maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. Many people only visit a dentist when they have a problem rather than seeing one on a regular basis, but early detection of tooth decay or cavities can prevent the development of larger issues such as needing a root canal. In between examinations, it’s important that you work to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. If you need additional help or have an existing condition, your dentist might suggest more frequent visits. Talk to our dental staff to discuss your specific needs.

I’m pregnant. Is it safe for me to see the dentist?

Receiving dental care when you’re pregnant is not only safe, it’s an important part of your prenatal care. Pregnancy is a time when changes happen in many parts of your body, including your mouth. Women who are pregnant may experience problems such as inflamed or bleeding gums or increased tooth decay. Our experienced dental staff knows how to adjust our regular processes to account for the care you need during this special time. This is important because poor oral health has been linked with increased complications of pregnancy. Remember, maintaining good oral health helps contribute to a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

I have dentures. Is it still necessary for me to see a dentist?

Even though denture wearers may no longer have to worry about dental decay, annual visits to the dentist are still an important part of dental health for people who wear dentures. During these visits, an oral cancer screening and head and neck exam will be performed, as well as an evaluation of the fit of your dentures to see if you need an adjustment or replacement. Remember, regular dental check-ups can help you avoid more complicated problems down the road.
